About the Book: One of the blessings that Allah has given His servants is that of a convenient means of financial exchange, i.e. money. Money has since grown to become one of the most prized possessions of mankind, and like so many elements of the dunya, serves to test the obedience of Allah’s servants by challenging their system of priorities. Therefore, due to the fact that the Muslims of today are preoccupied with the seeking of money to an extent almost unparalleled in Islamic history, I felt the need to compile a short treatise explaining the manner in which Allah (swt) and His Messenger described how Muslims could increase their money. The focus of this book is upon encouraging Muslims to procure money through halal means and to abstain from haram gains.

About the Author: Abu Ammaar Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas, but completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah. After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences. He is presently doing an M.A. in Islamic Theology (Aqeedah) from the College of Da’wah at the University. Of his published works are: Riyaa: Hidden Shirk; An Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur’an; An Explanation of the Four Principles of Shirk; Du’a : The Weapon of the Believer; and others.

Yasir Qadhi keeps it real by acknowledging that it is human desire to want to seek wealth but also builds a strong realization that this acquisition when done through halal means can become a form of Ibadah; that our predecessors would save money for rough times but were not obsessed with their wealth. Rather they saw it as a blessing to be thankful to Allah for. A very light and easy read for anyone who wants to see the holistic nature of Islam.

I have to admit I was getting a bit restless with the beginning pages because the author, my favorite – Sheikh Yasir Qadhi, was not mentioning the fifteen points already. But as my impatience grew, I reached a passage that made me realize something profound and suddenly I knew why that context was so important – our religion is so complete in its world view that we experience blessing only if Allah Wills and when we are mindful of His presence – that business today has become so Godless that you can actually see the lack of barakah. We see a rise of corporate giants and the fight for maximizing profits but its never enough – everyone is far from being satisfied. This removal of barakah is a test from Allah and unless we bring back the guidance of Allah and His Messenger into our classrooms, board rooms, meetings, market places and hospitals we will not be able to reclaim the golden era of Islam.
