About the Book: In this book, Dr. Abdullah Al Luhaidan expounds upon the idea of tolerance in Islam, and its different manifestations, by using examples from the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and supporting evidence from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. He synthesizes the concept of tolerance and al-walâ wal-barâ (loving and hating for the sake of Allah). Finally, he responds to the infamous ‘Clash of Civilizations’ thesis by arguing that Islam offers solutions to some of the world’s greatest problems.

I think this book needs to be read by every socially and politically aware Muslim living in the modern world and waking up to an identity crisis every morning. Why? Because I’m so fed up of seeing people talking in an apologetic tone about Islam and Jihad. Muslims need to look at the past to be able to even construct an idea of our future. If we are currently in a pathetic state, its because we made mistakes too and stopped looking for inspiration; we got lost in materialistic pursuits and forgot our higher purpose. And were wronged by those who couldn’t stand to see us succeed. Although our libraries were burned to ashes by the envious in the past, we have not done them much justice in the present either. Really something to think about. This book leaves nothing else to be said. We have been tolerant and you cannot find such instances in any other civilization. If we are intolerant today, its because we don’t know our past and our legacy. So we have no role models.
